difficult for even the most zealous researcher to stay on the top of necessary
information in the relevant field without the aid of computer-based tools. The
Bioinformatics Centre at Birla Institute of Scientific Research, Jaipur every
year organizes Bioinformatics Workshops. This year the Centre is organizing a
three-day training programme on "Bioinformatics: Biological sequence analysis
and protein structure prediction" which is to be held from 27 - 29 December
2002. Besides BISR faculty, Eminent guest Sceientist are invited from renowned
Bioinformatics Centres of India including JNU, NII New Delhi for delivering
lectures on advance concepts. The objective of this workshop is to focus on the
application of bioinformatics tools for analysis of biological sequences and
predicting the structure of a protein from primary amino acid sequences. The
focus of the workshop will be on the following topics: Accessing Various
Databanks Using Entrez & SRS, Sequence Similarity Searching Using Blast and
Fasta, Computational Genomics and Proteomics, Gene Identification techniques,
Nucleotide and Protein Sequence Analysis, Protein Structure Prediction,
Phylogenetic Analysis, Homology Modeling of Proteins, Structural Alignment of
Proteins,Analysis and Visualization of Biomolecular Structure using RASMOL and
SPDviewer etc.The last date of registration is 20 Dec 2002. For further
