Program Details

Bioinformatics is not limited to its application in biological sciences but is also knocking the doors of other domains of science. The individual who wants to develop a career in bioinformatics cannot limit to distance learning but for better economic pursuits he has to have the practical industry oriented knowledge of subject. With this mission and vision BII has launched the Dual program in Bioinformatics. The dual Program in Bioinformatics offered by BII is a combination of two programs:

Need for the Dual Program

The need for the dual program has been felt with the growing Bioinformatics and Cheminformatics segment in India. There is a huge demand of skilled Bioinformatics and cheminformatics Professionals in the industry. The proposed program has been thus designed to provide participants with the in-depth knowledge of the subject thus making him a skilled Bioinformatician / Cheminformatician. The student benefit by getting a Certificate by BII in Advance Program in Bioinformatics thereby saving 6 months.

Program Duration

The Program Duration is one year

Program Eligibility

The eligibilty for the training program is graduation in any discipline.Highly interested participants in final year can also apply.

Attendance

A minimum of 75% attendance is compulsory, failing which the students will be debarred from appearing in any examination and he/she will have to repeat the term.

Discipline

Students are expected to follow the code of discipline failing which action, as considered necessary, including rustication may be taken at the discretion of the Director. These rules are displayed on the notice board

Evaluation

At the end of the duration of a program, participants will through a well defined evaluation process for both Advance Program in Bioinformatics and PG Diploma in Bioinformatics.

Career Prospects in Bioinformatics:

Bioinformatics is the new global wave. Companies and Governments in the business of developing drugs, agriculture, chemicals, hybrid plants, plastics, petroleum derivatives, Information technology among others are developing Bioinformatics divisions and looking to it to provide new avenues and research output to help replace scarce natural resources. India, being a forerunner among the countries having the knowledge edge, is expected to play a leading role in the Bioinformatics revolution. Bioinformatics Institute of India aims at being the frontrunner and pioneer in the Indian Bioinformatics initiative. India has expert software professionals and qualified and experienced Biologists/ Biotechnologists but lacks a combination which is now known as Bioinformatics Professional. Prospective employers include Pharmaceutical companies in India/ abroad, R&D organization, Academic Institutions, Government Organizations, Software Companies & Product Marketing Companies. There are great opportunities to work as Scientists, Researchers, Software Developers, Database Developers, Consultants, Trainers and Academicians.

Career Prospects in Cheminformatics

The rising tide of data being generated by high-throughput approaches to drug screening is slowly bringing about a chemical revolution. Cheminformatics thus is becoming a big business. Those indicators are growing stronger for cheminformatics — also called cheminformatics or chemical informatics. Just as the genomics boom created a need for bioinformaticians, an explosion in the amount of data generated by combinatorial chemistry and other high-throughput approaches to drug screening and drug design is creating a demand for chemoinformaticians. Cheminformatics experts are in great demand. The demand for cheminformatics expertise has come primarily from the pharmaceutical industry. But chemistry – database creation and searching, and high – throughput technologies, have become increasingly important to the chemistry industry as well. Their jobs can range from the management of a database of structures and biological data, to work involving combinatorial chemistry.

Fee Structure

Total Course Fee Rs. 40,000 (Installment facility available).

Program Completion

After the successful completion of the program the candidate will obtain

1.) PG Diploma in Bioinformatics/Cheminformatics (Jamia Hamdard University)
